Seminar: 4 noble truths
When the great universal teacher Shakyamuni Buddha first spoke about the Dharma in the noble land of India, he taught the four noble truths:
  • the truths of suffering
  • the cause of suffering
  • the cessation of suffering
  • the path to the cessation of suffering.
The Four Noble Truths are the key teaching of the Buddha. The first two Truths remind us that being unenlightened is always going to be problematic and show us clearly why we keep on getting stuck in unenlightened thinking and behavior.
If that was all there was then it would be a pretty grim message, but the last two Truths show us very clearly that being unenlightened is not the only option open to us. We can change, we can stop the nonsense. The last of the Four Noble Truths, the Truth of the Path, shows us the way to become enlightened and that becoming enlightened is available to everyone.
